AN INDIAN PILGRIM SUMMERY
Subhas Bose's father asked him to
decide, within twenty four hours whether he would like to go to England to sit
for the ICS Examination next year.
The decision to sit for the ICS
Examination was not very easy for Subhas. For this he had to leave behind his
carefully laid plan of researches in psychology. Moreover he never dreamt of
taking a job under the British rule. But he decided to go on
consideration that he would not
pass the ICS Examination on such a short notice.
Subhas faced multiple
obstacles regarding his mission to sit for the ICS Examination in England.
Firstly it came from the department of Passport, Subhas was introduced to the
Headquarters of the Police Department through a high Officer who was a distant
relative of Subhas and the passport was ready within six days.
Then Subhas consulted a group
of his acquaintance. The group reacted negatively as they thought that as one
of the members of that group did not return to the native land it would be
dangerous to try another experiment.
The author did not agree with
that group as he thought
That it did not mean that
everyone would follow the footsteps of that member who had gone astray so he
decided to go.
The Provincial Advisor for Studies in
England knew him
by face and did not have a high
opinion about him as he was a professor of the Presidency College and Subhas
was an expelled student of that college. Provincial Advisor for Studies in
England tried to dishearten him saying that he had no chance against the tip
toppers of The Cambridge and the Oxford University and his ten thousand rupees
was going to be drained. But Still Subhas persisted and relying entirely on his
own resources he set sail for England.
